Pressure washer art, also known as clean art, reverse graffiti and green graffiti, can produce amazing images. The only things you need are a good pressure washer and a good imagination.
Dianna Wood from North Carolina, USA, received a present of a pressure washer for her birthday. Initially she started to clean her fences and bricks but when Dianna decided to clean her driveway inspiration struck and she hasn’t looked back.
Dianna likes to create images of birds, owls, flowers and butterflies.
Not all the images below are Dianna’s but if you really like Dianna’s images you can find more on Dianna’s blog.
This first image of an owl is created by Dianna. All her images are drawn by adjusting the angle of the lances and all of Dianna’s images are drawn free hand, no stencils!
Here we can see Dianna’s trusty pressure washer and a beautiful image of a flower.
This image above is such a cool shot! Check out the wolves on the left and the super cool wilderness scene. This mural was made by photographer Ron Burkett who runs a great Youtube channel.
This beautiful bird was drawn freehand with a pressure washer. Such skill!
Would you believe that some people actually create clean art for a living? Londoner Manou Bendon is one of them and he created the above image for Transport for London.
This lovely flower creation was also made by Manou Bendon at the RHS Hampton Flower Show.
You can also draw your own super heroes or villains! Here you can see the one and only Darth Vader.
Allen Wong made this great image of Batman using a power washer on paving stone.
Octopus tentacles also make for a great feature when making pressure washer art. This path is really set of by the green grass beside it. Created by Ron Jelich this mural really dazzles.
Here is another of Dianna Wood’s pieces of art featuring flowers, leaves, branches and the bird that we saw previously.
Here we see a beautiful butterfly atop a flower with other flowers in the vicinity.
Who says that giants don’t exist! Check out the perfect toe circles and the very straight edge of the foot. Do you think that this foot was made freehand?
This would be such a cool scene to run or walk past. The runners really put the size of this pressure washer art feature into perspective.
You can be sure that this very cool pattern wasn’t drawn free hand. A lot of thought went into this design and the result is amazing.
Stencils are a very easy way of getting cool pressure washer art features on your driveways or footpaths.
This clean art image was taken in San Francisco. It’s simple yet elegant.
Clean art, or reverse graffiti, sometimes also called clean graffiti (!!) can be used to spread important messages in todays society.
How To Pressure Washer Art Your Driveway
As you’ve probably realised by now there a few ways by which you can make pressure washer art on your driveway.
The first is by freehand. If pressure washing art by freehand it is probably best to draw an outline and details of the feature that you want to make.
The second is by the use of a stencil. You can either buy a stencil online, create your own from a piece of plastic or wood. Rubber mats and similar objects are also great for makeshift stencils.
Another method is to place duct tape on the ground in the shape of the figure that you’d like to preserve. You can then clean around the duct tape with your pressure washer (ensuring to spray away from the tape so that it won’t come loose). Once done you can peel the tape away to showcase your figure.
Two Sides To Every Story
As you may have noticed from the above photos you can either wash the inside of the image so that your image is clean and your drive stays dirty or you can clean around your image so that your image stays dirty and your drive around your image is clean.
Check out the above photos and see which format you prefer.
What You Need
The tools and materials needed to create pressure washer art are very simple and include;
- A good pressure washer
- Duct tape
- Chalk
- Stencils (optional but a good investment if starting out)
Decide Where You’ll Create Your Pressure Washer Art
There are two main considerations when deciding where to create your pressure washer art.
The first consideration involves local by-laws and your neighbours.
Do you actually own the property on which you will be creating your art? If you’re planning on decorating footpaths or driveways which you do not own be sure to get permission first!
The second consideration is the surface of the object that you are pressure washing. Make sure that the surface is robust and that the pressure washer won’t skim the top of it.
Ensure that you have an easy to reach water and electricity supply available. It’s not very safe if you have miles of extension leads plugged into each other!
